You’ll be joining a well established independent construction consultancy with nearly two decades of experience delivering thoughtful, commercially robust projects for clients. They specialise in managing construction from inception to completion including cost control, project management, building surveying and development consultancy, working across a wide range of sectors both private and public.
This is not just another desk role. You’ll contribute to schemes that shape places from modern education facilities to sustainable lodges and cutting edge office refurbishments with responsibility and visibility from day one.
About the position
As an intermediate quantity surveyor,you’ll have true commercial ownership of cost control activities spanning early cost planning, procurement strategy, contract management and final accounts.
You’ll work alongside senior surveyors, project managers, architects and contractors to keep projects financially healthy while supporting quality and programme goals. Expect to play a key role in tender evaluation, contract negotiation, change control and risk reporting.
Typical projects in the portfolio include:
Community primary schools and education buildings in Exeter and the wider Devon area
Award winning sustainable lodge developments
Fire stations and public sector facilities
Commercial office buildings with high energy performance ratings
Industrial and enterprise zone work
Your role will involve both officebased financial reporting and onsite commercial oversight, so comfort with both environments is key.
About you
You’re commercially sharp, proactive and detail focused. You should be confident influencing decisions and comfortable juggling multiple work strands with clarity and common sense. Specifically,you’ll share most of these traits:
Accredited quantity surveying qualification or degree
Solid quantity surveying experience ideally in consultancy or main contractor environments
Practical knowledge of cost planning, procurement and contract administration
Strong communicator able to build rapport with clients, delivery teams and contractors
Ability to think laterally when scope or design changes challenge the budget
You’ll enjoy digging into numbers but also explaining commercial impacts clearly so everyone from clients to site teams can make informed decisions.
