Senior Development Manager

London

£85,000 - £90,000 Plus Comprehensive Benefits

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Development Manager to join a well-established private property investment and development business with a significant London portfolio spanning commercial, residential and mixed-use assets.

This is a client-side role offering the chance to take ownership of projects across the full development lifecycle while working closely with an experienced Head of Development. The successful candidate will have a genuine opportunity to influence development strategy, drive value enhancement initiatives and play a key role in the future growth of the portfolio.

This would suit someone already operating at Development Manager or Senior Development Manager level who is looking for broader responsibility, direct exposure to senior decision-makers and a clear route towards a Head of Development position in the future.

The Opportunity

You'll be responsible for managing multiple development projects from initial feasibility through planning, procurement and construction to completion and handover.

Working within a lean and highly entrepreneurial environment, you'll have the autonomy to make decisions, challenge professional teams and take ownership of projects from start to finish. You'll be involved not only in project delivery but also wider portfolio strategy, investment-led decision making and identifying opportunities to enhance asset performance across the estate.

Unlike larger corporate organisations, this role offers direct access to the leadership team and the ability to make a visible impact on projects and business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of development projects through all stages of the development lifecycle
  • Lead feasibility studies, design development, planning and delivery strategies
  • Coordinate consultants, contractors and professional teams
  • Monitor programmes, budgets, risks, procurement and project performance
  • Review cost plans, tender submissions, development appraisals and financial forecasts
  • Oversee procurement processes and contractor appointments
  • Build and maintain relationships with planning authorities, consultants and delivery partners
  • Prepare project reporting for senior stakeholders
  • Identify opportunities to improve asset value and support wider portfolio initiatives
  • Act as a trusted deputy to the Head of Development when required

About You

You'll have a proven track record delivering development projects within a developer, property company, investment business, private office or similar client-side environment.

We're particularly interested in candidates who have experience managing schemes through planning, design, procurement and construction and who are comfortable balancing commercial, technical and stakeholder management responsibilities.

You will ideally have:

  • Degree qualification in Property, Real Estate, Construction, Surveying, Architecture, Engineering or a related discipline
  • Strong development management experience across the full project lifecycle
  • Experience working on commercial, residential, retail or mixed-use developments
  • Excellent commercial awareness and financial understanding
  • Knowledge of planning, procurement, cost control and project governance
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively in a lean organisation

Professional qualifications such as MRICS, MCIOB, MAPM or similar would be advantageous but are not essential.

Why Join?

This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful private property business with a substantial London portfolio and long-term investment strategy.

You'll gain:

  • Significant autonomy and responsibility
  • Direct exposure to senior leadership and decision-making
  • A varied project portfolio across commercial and residential sectors
  • The opportunity to influence wider development and investment strategy
  • Clear progression prospects as the development function continues to evolve
  • Long-term career stability within a privately owned business

Package

  • £85,000 - £90,000
  • Discretionary annual bonus
  • Private healthcare
  • Medical cash plan
  • Enhanced pension contribution
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing with service
  • Life assurance
  • Season ticket loan
  • Employee assistance programme
  • Annual salary review
  • Regular company events
