Carriera is proud to be working in partnership with an established property and construction consultancy to recruit an experienced Senior Principal Designer to join their team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Principal Designer looking to take the next step in their career, working across a diverse portfolio of construction projects while playing a key role in promoting design safety and ensuring compliance with the latest health and safety legislation.

The successful candidate will join an established team, working closely with clients, architects, contractors and wider project teams to deliver Principal Designer services under the CDM Regulations 2015.

The Role

As Senior Principal Designer, you will take responsibility for delivering and coordinating Principal Designer duties across a varied portfolio of projects, providing clients with clear, practical advice and ensuring health and safety is considered throughout the design and construction process.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Undertaking the Principal Designer role in accordance with CDM Regulations 2015.

• Advising clients on their duties and responsibilities under CDM.

• Managing and coordinating design risk throughout the project lifecycle.

• Working closely with architects, designers, contractors and other project stakeholders.

• Reviewing designs and identifying, eliminating or reducing foreseeable risks.

• Preparing and reviewing Pre-Construction Information (PCI).

• Coordinating and reviewing Construction Phase Plans (CPP) and Health & Safety Files.

• Attending design team meetings, client meetings and project reviews.

• Carrying out design risk assessments and supporting project teams with practical risk management solutions.

• Supporting and mentoring more junior members of the team.

• Building and maintaining strong client relationships while helping to develop the Principal Designer offering.

About You

We are keen to speak with experienced Principal Designers who have a strong background in construction health and safety and are confident managing projects independently.

Ideally, you will have:

• Proven experience working as a Principal Designer under CDM 2015.

• Strong knowledge of current construction health and safety legislation.

• Experience working with multidisciplinary design teams and construction professionals.

• The ability to manage multiple projects and build strong client relationships.

• Excellent communication, organisational and report-writing skills.

• A relevant health and safety or construction-related qualification.

• Membership of APS, IOSH or another relevant professional body would be advantageous.
