Senior Building Surveyor
Location: London or Surrey
Salary: £75,000–£85,000 + Benefits

This is an opportunity to join an established, independent property and construction consultancy with a growing Building Surveying team based in Covent Garden or Epsom. The business works across both the public and private sectors, providing Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying, Project Management, Project Monitoring and Dispute Resolution services. Their client base includes private individuals, banks, private equity funds, solicitors, trusts and Local Authorities. The Building Surveying team has a particularly interesting portfolio, with projects across prime and super-prime residential, offices, theatres and shopping centres, predominantly across London and the Southeast.

The Opportunity

You'll work closely with the Head of Building Surveying and play an important role in the continued growth of the team. 

It's a broad Building Surveying position, so you'll have the opportunity to get involved across a variety of instructions rather than being restricted to one particular area.

Alongside delivering your own projects and building relationships with clients, you'll also have the opportunity to help develop the wider team, supporting junior surveyors through their APC and helping them progress their careers.

For the right person, there is a clear pathway towards Director level, with the opportunity to become a significant fee earner and play a key role in growing the Building Surveying offering.

What You'll Be Doing

Your role will be varied and will include:

• Developing new business relationships and identifying opportunities.

• Building and maintaining strong relationships with existing clients.

• Preparing fee proposals and contributing to the growth of the team.

• Acting as a key fee earner within the Building Surveying team.

• Carrying out measured and building surveys across residential and commercial properties.

• Providing Party Wall advice and services.

• Preparing specifications, tender documentation and contract documentation.

• Acting as Contract Administrator on projects.

• Undertaking dilapidations instructions.

• Carrying out defect analysis surveys and preparing detailed reports.

• Preparing Licences to Alter, monitoring works and signing off completed works.

• Supporting Expert Witness instructions, including site inspections and preparation of CPR35 reports.

• Working alongside Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors, Bank Monitoring Surveyors and Expert Witness specialists.

• Supporting and mentoring junior members of the team, including those working towards their APC.

You'll be working across a varied portfolio, with the majority of work focused across London and the Southeast.

The consultancy has particular experience across:

• Prime and super-prime residential

• Commercial offices

• Retail and shopping centres

• Theatres and leisure

• Public sector properties

• Complex refurbishment and alteration projects

The variety of work means this would suit someone who enjoys the technical, professional and client-facing aspects of Building Surveying.

What They're Looking For

You'll ideally be:

• MRICS qualified.

• Degree qualified in Building Surveying or a related RICS-accredited discipline.

• Experienced across a broad range of Building Surveying services.

• Confident dealing directly with clients, contractors and other professional advisers.

• Commercially minded with an interest in developing client relationships and winning work.

• Highly organised with strong attention to detail.

• Comfortable managing your own workload and taking ownership of projects.

• Someone who enjoys working as part of a growing team and supporting more junior surveyors.
