Chartered EWS1/FRAEW Consultant

Salary: £80,000–£110,000

The Opportunity

An established consultancy is looking to appoint a Chartered FRAEW / EWS1 Consultant to join its growing Fire Safety and Building Compliance team in London. The business has an established presence across fire safety and building compliance, with over 15 years' experience in the sector. It is affiliated with the IFE and IFSM, is BAFE 205 accredited, and has recently strengthened its senior leadership across Fire Engineering and FRAEW.

You will join a growing but established technical team, working alongside two existing Chartered professionals who currently lead the technical review and sign-off of the team's external wall work. The role is predominantly technical, suited to someone who wants to remain close to the assessment, review and sign-off of external wall projects rather than move into a heavily commercial or management-focused position. As the team continues to expand, you will play an important role in maintaining technical quality, supporting peer review activities and helping shape the ongoing development of the consultancy's FRAEW and EWS1 capability.

You will work across a range of residential, high-rise, mixed-use and higher-risk buildings, supporting clients through external wall assessments and cladding remediation programmes. This is an opportunity to join the business at a point of significant growth, with a strong pipeline of work and the opportunity to make a direct impact on the team's technical capacity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver and technically review FRAEW assessments across a range of residential, high-rise, mixed-use and higher-risk buildings.
  • Undertake and act as the competent professional/signatory for EWS1 assessments, where appropriately qualified and experienced.
  • Review external wall construction, materials, fire performance and associated risks.
  • Undertake site inspections and intrusive investigations to establish existing wall build-ups and conditions.
  • Provide technical recommendations for external wall remediation and risk mitigation.
  • Produce clear, technically robust reports and supporting documentation.
  • Provide technical advice to clients, colleagues and wider project teams.
  • Peer review and quality assure external wall assessments produced within the wider team.
  • Support cladding remediation programmes from initial assessment through to technical recommendations and delivery.
  • Contribute to the continued development of the consultancy's FRAEW and EWS1 offering as the pipeline of work grows.

About You

We're interested in speaking with experienced Chartered professionals with a strong background in façade engineering, external wall assessment or FRAEW, who are looking for a predominantly technical role with a strong pipeline of specialist work.

You will ideally have:

  • Chartered Engineer status through the Engineering Council, or equivalent professional status recognised for the relevant assessment and sign-off requirements.
  • Demonstrable experience undertaking and signing EWS1 assessments and/or FRAEW/PAS 9980 assessments.
  • Strong technical experience across façade systems, external wall construction and fire performance.
  • Experience assessing existing external wall systems across residential, high-rise, mixed-use or higher-risk buildings.
  • Experience undertaking site inspections and/or intrusive investigations.
  • A strong understanding of external wall remediation and associated fire safety risks.
  • The ability to apply professional judgement to complex external wall and fire safety matters.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical findings clearly to clients and project teams.
  • A technically focused approach, with the confidence to work independently and take professional responsibility for your assessments.

Benefits

  • Real hybrid working: 1 day in the London office and 4 days home or site
  • 37.5 hour working week
  • Private healthcare
  • Professional development and training funding
  • Support towards Chartered status and ongoing professional development
  • 25 days annual leave + bank holidays + 5 day annual leave rollover option
  • Discretionary bonus

Apply

If you're a Chartered professional with EWS1 sign-off and FRAEW experience, we'd be keen to hear from you. This is a predominantly technical role with a strong pipeline of external wall work already secured. ‌
