Carriera is proud to partner exclusively with The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea who are in the process of recruiting a Fire Risk Engineer to join its well established fire safety department offering fire risk engineering services to its housing stock across the borough. The successful post holder will be responsible for providing fire engineering analysis, design advice, technical input to projects, fire strategies and fire safety advice.

Housing Management are carrying out £380m capital programme in addition to general revenue and repair works. Delivery of this programme involves multiple design teams and a major part of the Fire Risk Engineer role will be to ensure consistency of fire engineering standards across multiple projects.

RBKC manages a portfolio of over 9,500 (800 - 1000 buildings) properties throughout the borough, from 32 high rise blocks, low level street dwellings, sheltered accommodation and HMO's etc. Although one of the smallest boroughs in London it is one of the most densely populated and diverse areas in Europe, it boasts an array of unique buildings, historic museums and beautiful parks.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare retrospective fire strategy documents for existing residential buildings to satisfy the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
  • Oversee delivery of fire safety within Housing Management throughout the RIBA Plan of Work stages.
  • Provide technical fire safety advice and management in relation to design, both of new-build and refurbishment works.
  • Act as competent client, interacting with design teams and their fire engineers to ensure delivery of high-quality projects in line with RBKC's Fire Safety Employer Requirements.
  • Provide detailed fire engineering analysis and support as part of Building Safety Cases, including using hand calculations, zone models and CFD models to consider levels of safety within existing blocks of flats.
  • Review of fire risk assessments and FRA reviews in line with the Regulatory Reform Order (Fire Safety) 2005.
  • Assist in the preparation and development of policies and procedural documents in support of the Corporate Fire Safety Policy.
  • Manage contractors and consultants to ensure fire safety standards are fully met.
  • Ensure that records, documents and processes relating to fire risk management are in place, up-to-date and compliant with the RBKC Corporate Fire Safety Policy.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Fire Engineering or similar engineering discipline (desirable).
  • Membership to IFE (GIFireE, AIFireE or MIFireE).
  • Membership to IFSM (AIFSM or MIFSM).
  • Extensive knowledge of current relevant building contracts and building standards.
  • 3 - 5 years experience working within fire safety of fire engineering.
  • Excellent knowledge of BS 9999, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 & PAS 79
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
