Carriera has partnered with a multi-disciplinary consultancy specialising in surveying, engineering, project management, and fire safety services throughout the UK. Our client is seeking a talented and ambitious Fire Engineer to join their highly skilled façade and engineering team in Manchester.

As a Fire Engineer, you will be responsible for conducting site inspections, reviewing fire risk assessments, writing fire design strategies, interpreting data from external wall investigations, and applying relevant regulations, guidance, and best practices to ensure fire safety in buildings.

Our client is one of the leading firms dealing with high-risk buildings in residential, mixed use, university and college sectors, including student accommodation. Initially, the focus of this role will be on external walls and cladding projects across the UK. The role will also extend to working with the project management and cost management teams and becoming an integral part of the project teams delivering and overseeing a range of remediation projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform site inspections and review fire risk assessments.
  • Interpret data from external wall investigations and apply relevant regulations, guidance, best practices, and codes of practice to ensure fire safety.
  • Conduct holistic reviews of fire safety and provide input on fire strategy, interim measures, mitigations, and proposed remediation actions.
  • Collaborate with project management and cost management teams to oversee a range of remediation projects, including full-scale façade/ cladding replacement schemes, installation of temporary alarm systems, and internal compartmentation works.
  • Stay up to date with current fire safety legislation, technical standards, issues, trends, and best practices.
  • Possess a working knowledge or detailed understanding of relevant regulations, such as the Building Safety Act 2022, Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 as amended, Fire Safety Act 2021, PAS 9980, Building Regulations & The Approved Documents (related to fire safety), Fire Safety in Purpose-Built Blocks of Flats, LACoRS - Guidance on Fire Safety Provisions for Certain Types of Existing Housing, NFCC - Fire Safety in Specialised Housing, and building façade types.

Requirements:

  • Higher education qualification in engineering or a fire safety related subject e.g BSc in Fire Engineering.
  • Membership to IFE or IFSM (desirable).
  • Full conversance with current fire safety legislation, technical standards, and best practices.
  • Excellent understanding of fire safety issues, trends, and practices.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel for site inspections and meetings.
