Carriera has partnered with a multi-disciplinary consultancy specialising in surveying, engineering, project management, and fire safety services throughout the UK. Our client is seeking a talented and professional Façade Technician to join their highly skilled façade and engineering team. As a Façade Technician, you will be responsible for providing investigation, due diligence, oversight, and construction services for façade and cladding projects. You will also work closely with the project management and cost management teams, contributing to full-scale façade/cladding replacement and remediation contracts.

Our client is one of the leading firms dealing with high-risk buildings in residential, mixed use, university and college sectors, including student accommodation. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced façade professional to join our client during an excited period of growth for the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct intrusive investigations of existing buildings, including coordinating opening up, sampling, and testing of façade and cladding systems.
  • Determine the nature, configuration, and material composition of external wall systems, identifying insulation products, their combustibility ratings, and the presence of fire breaks, cavity barriers, and fire stops.
  • Advise on compliance and risk associated with external wall systems.
  • Collate site investigation data for Fire Risk Assessment of External Walls (FRAEW) process and other related assessments, including Building Regulations compliance reviews.
  • Inspect and monitor construction works to ensure compliance with contract conditions, best practices, relevant legislation, design drawings, and specifications.
  • Conduct technical and quality assurance audits, tender reviews, requests for information (RFIs), and due diligence reviews.
  • Monitor cladding remediation projects and other construction work, preparing concise, accurate, and high-quality project monitoring reports.
  • Resolve technical inquiries, assist with design reviews and project implementation.
  • Provide technical input and work as an integral member of the project teams.
  • Measure and sample building materials to check quality and suitability.
  • Produce routine letters, reports, and other documents to a high standard.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience in consultancy and/or an engineering firm, with at least 3 years' experience examining external wall/façade construction or inspecting and verifying façade systems.
  • Degree in building/engineering or a related field, and/or membership or associate membership of a relevant professional organisation.
  • Detailed knowledge and technical appreciation of a range of façade types, including fire safety measures and good building design.
  • Ability to conduct construction oversight inspections and cross-check construction and live construction works.
  • Experience in reviewing design, engineering, and construction documentation, providing specialist input, and resolving technical problems.
  • Ability to conduct contractor technical audits, tender reviews, RFIs, due diligence reviews, etc.
  • Knowledge of relevant Building Regulations and statutory limitations, particularly in relation to fire safety and construction best practices.
  • Strong document production skills, including routine letters, correspondence, reports, and other documents.
