Role: CDM/Principal Designer
Location: Birmingham – Hybrid working
Sector: Property & Construction
Salary: Up to £60,000 + Excellent benefits package

Carriera is proud to partner with an independent and award winning property and construction consultancy based out of Birmingham. Our client has been established for over 40 years and boasts a headcount of over 200 construction professionals, offering a variety of services (building surveying, project management, cost management, architecture and H&S/CDM) to their client base across the built environment.

We are working very closely with this client to not only find a talented principal designer but someone with a great attitude that would fit in with a very down to earth and hard working business. The Birmingham office is now looking to grow, so we are particularly interested in speaking to Principal Designer's who would be captivated in growing their own CDM team and someone that isn't shy to get stuck into the stacks of work already at your disposal.

As part of our client's multidisciplinary consultancy, you will have the chance to work on a diverse range of projects, including national refurbishment and new build schemes across various sectors such as residential, education, health, care, commercial, and blue light.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Head of Construction Design & Management, operating under our ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
  • Engage in projects spanning RIBA stages 1-6, ensuring comprehensive involvement throughout.
  • Strategise, oversee, monitor, and coordinate health and safety initiatives during the pre-construction phase.
  • Assist and advise clients in gathering pre-construction information, equipping designers and contractors with the necessary data to carry out their duties effectively.
  • Collaborate with other designers involved in the project, aiming to eliminate foreseeable health and safety risks for all individuals affected by the work. If total elimination is not feasible, take necessary measures to reduce or control those risks.
  • Consider pertinent information, such as existing health and safety files, that may impact design work conducted both before and after the construction phase.
  • Foster effective communication and cooperation among all stakeholders involved in the pre-construction phase, facilitating seamless coordination of work wherever necessary.
  • Liaise with the principal contractor, ensuring continuous updates on risks that need to be controlled during the construction phase.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated expertise in Health & Safety principles and practices.
  • Possess a minimum of 2 years of industry experience.
  • Hold a professional qualification in Health and Safety, such as membership in the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH), membership in the Association of Project Safety (APS), NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health & Safety, or International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM).

Benefits:

  • Scottish Windows pension and salary sacrifice program with a 4.5% contribution match.
  • Life assurance cover for all colleagues at a rate of x4 annual salary.
  • Medicash health plan for your well-being.
  • Professional development scheme to enhance your skills and expertise.
  • Flexible working hours to promote work-life balance.
  • Hybrid working arrangements for greater flexibility.
  • Birthday leave to celebrate your special day.
  • Long-service leave to recognise your commitment and dedication.
