Role: Building Control Surveyor

Location: Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, or London office based

Sector: Architectural Practice

Salary: £50,000 - £55,000 + excellent benefits package

Carriera is currently seeking an experienced and competent Building Control Surveyor to join our client's team and take on the crucial role of ensuring Building Regulations compliance for their projects. Our client has created the new position because of the amendment of the Building Act 1984 through the Building Safety Act, and it holds significant implications for all projects requiring a Building Regulations application.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an award winning architect practice which has recently been named "The #1 Architect practice to work for" in the UK. The successful candidate will be working on a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, retail, leisure, industrial, education, manufacturing, and hotel projects on a regional and national basis.

The role would suit an individual who has an excellent understanding of building regulations or has previously worked as a Building Control Surveyor, Approved Inspector, Building Inspector or a similar role.

Responsibilities:

Building Regulations Compliance: Your primary responsibility will be to plan, manage, and monitor the design process before the commencement of construction, ensuring that it complies with all relevant Building Regulations.

Design Management: You will work closely with the design team to oversee and coordinate all aspects of the design process, ensuring that it meets the necessary regulatory requirements.

Competency and Skill Assessment: The role requires individuals or organisations to demonstrate the required competency and skills.

Collaborative Teamwork: In larger, complex projects, you may collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team, each possessing complementary expertise, to ensure comprehensive compliance with Building Regulations, including fire safety requirements.

Training and Upskilling: As a Building Safety Consultant, you may be expected to undergo accredited training programs to acquire the necessary competencies and keep up with evolving regulations and best practices.

Mandatory Reporting: For projects involving higher-risk buildings, you will be responsible for collating the Golden Thread pack of information during the design stage and conducting Mandatory Reporting after the project receives Building Control Approval.

Requirements :

  • Degree educated within Building Surveying or a similar technical discipline (desirable but not essential).
  • Professional membership to CABE, RICS or RIBA (desirable).
  • The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of Building Regulations and related compliance requirements, including fire safety legislation.
  • Previous experience in design management or related roles within the construction industry is highly desirable.
  • Effective communication skills are essential to collaborate with various stakeholders and ensure smooth project coordination.
  • A meticulous approach to review designs and ensure adherence to regulations is critical for the success of this role.
  • Candidates may be required to possess or obtain relevant competency accreditation according to British Standards

Apply:

  • Competitive salary in the region of £50,000 - £55,000 (dependant on experience).
  • Profit share bonus scheme.
  • 26 days holiday (includes a closedown at Christmas) and bank holidays.
  • Private healthcare scheme.
  • Enhanced parental leave.
  • Professional membership fees.
  • Excellent support, training and progression opportunities.
  • Hybrid working environment.
